OTTAWA – It is urgent to renew funding for social housing in Canada, said Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet (Hochelaga) in the House of Commons this afternoon.
The New Democrat MP gave the example of low-income First Nations families in London, who will soon find themselves without housing if nothing is done. “This is a concrete example of the consequences of the expiry of long-term agreements for social housing,” she said.
“When will the minister renew these agreements so that First Nations families don’t end up in the streets?,” she said.
Boutin-Sweet has long been calling for the renewal of funding for social housing, as well as for the Homelessness Partnership Strategy.
