MARJOLAINE BOUTIN-SWEET MARCHES ALONGSIDE FRAPRU TO MAINTAIN FEDERAL SUBSIDIES FOR SOCIAL HOUSING
May 28th, 2012 - 12:00pm
MONTREAL — Official Opposition Housing Critic, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet (Hochelaga), marched this Sunday alongside the Front d’action populaire en réaménagement urbain (FRAPRU) to call on the federal government to maintain subsidies for existing social housing.
“It was important for me to show my solidarity with those fighting to maintain social housing stock,” explained Boutin-Sweet. “The federal government must agree immediately to maintain subsidies for more than 600,000 social houses in Canada, including 127,000 in Quebec.”
A multitude of organizations from across Quebec as well as many citizens participated in the march. The rally took place at 1:00 p.m. at the Saint-Gabriel Park in Pointe-St-Charles.
“I saw today that our community was mobilized behind a single common goal: guarantee federal subsidies for social housing,” said the MP. “I will now make sure that the Conservative government hears my constituents’ message.”
