Electoral reform

Add your name to support a fair, proportional voting system.

In the last two elections, our outdated voting system allowed a party to win 100% of the power with just 39% of the vote. As a result, millions of votes effectively didn’t count and too many Canadian voices aren’t heard in Ottawa.

The solution is simple – if a party gets 39% of the vote, they should get 39% of the seats in our Parliament. A proportional representation system would make sure every vote is counted equally, no matter who you vote for.

Electoral reform was one of the biggest promises the Liberals made during the campaign leading up to the election in October 2015. The party platform stated “We are committed to ensuring that 2015 will be the last federal election conducted under the first-past-the-post voting system.”

Even though Justin Trudeau broke his promise, we shouldn’t give in to cynicism: it is now more important than ever to keep fighting for a fair electoral system.
